Co-op Racing Attends Their Second NASA Event Of The Season

Pacific Junction, IA – Co-op Racing ventured to the edge of IA in order to compete with the National Auto Sport Association at the Mid America Motorplex (MAM). This was the second race for Andy Berberich and the Eurosport 944 with NASA. Similar to the Iowa Speedway race in April, the Eurosport 944 was the only car in the 944 Cup class. This time, the Eurosport 944 placed 5th in the 15 car field. Nevertheless, the team took this opportunity to continually develop the car for the rest of the season.

MAM is located just south of Omaha, NE in bottom land near border of Nebraska and Iowa. Completed in April 2002, Mid-America's
road course is a 2.23-mile gem. Designed by world-renowned designer Alan Wilson, the track has already become a much sought after venue for many of the nation's top motor sports organizations. The track surface is second to none with an incredibly tire-friendly compound that will greatly reduce tire wear, and will promote safer adhesion for all types of vehicles.

“MAM is a really nice track” commented Berberich. “Even though there aren’t any elevation changes; the track is challenging and fun to drive. Its layout makes it an excellent spectator track as well. From the stands you can see the entire track. Be sure to bring your binoculars though. The best description of the track would be a combined configuration of Putnam Park and Gingerman. I used the practice session to familiarize myself with the track. The open layout of the track also made it easy to learn. The qualifying session was used to drive consistency and optimize each turn. Towards the end of qualifying, I had enough clear track to put all the turns together and qualify well. Since they broke the group up by class, I started the race on the outside of the front row. I’ve never started a race from the front row before. I think I am going to try to start from there more often.” The race started and ended without major incident. The Eurosport 944 finished 5th in the 15 car field.

Co-op Racing continued tuning the Eurosport 944 during the practice, qualifying, and race sessions. Since the Eurosport 944 was transformed into a 944 Cup car at the start of the season, the team has been optimizing the system. This race was one step closer to qualifying for the NASA Nationals to be held at Mid Ohio in September.

The next race for Berberich was scheduled for the second day of racing with NASA at MAM. On July 1st, day two of racing, Berberich was scheduled to race in the #18 Firebird in American Iron.
