Eurosport 944 Places 2nd in Enduro at Autobahn Country Club

Joliet, IL - Co-op Racing traveled to the Autobahn Country Club on Friday,
June 8 in preparation for the inaugural Club Race for the Porsche Club of
America (PCA). After Returning from an eventful practice the weekend before,
Co-op Racing was looking to improve on lap times and consistency. With these
intentions, the Eurosport Porsche 944 placed 2nd in class in the rain
hindered 60 minute enduro.
In preparation for the weekend, Co-op Racing entrusted partner Kauth &
Mayeur with

aligning the suspension based on the previous weekends testing results. This
proved beneficial as the alignment did not need to be changed
throughout the weekend. Friday's activities included four practice
sessions and a fun race. The fun races are primarily used for inexperienced and
novice drivers to become familiar with the typically very congested race
start. After the first two practice session, driver Andy Berberich and crew
chief Brandon Fritz realized that the old tires were holding back the
performance of the Eurosport 944. New tires were installed and the lap times
dropped by four seconds. Continually looking to lower lap times, Berberich
and Fritz consorted with George Weathered of Eurosport Racing. Even though
Berberich and the Eurosport 944 were faster than many cars in higher
classes, they decided to make a rear shock change that night.
The shocks weren't the only things that changed Friday night, so did the
weather. A thunderstorm that blew through during the night left residual
rain clouds throughout Saturday. As a result, Co-op racing faced a weakness
in its racing program. They were not adequately prepared for rain. Without
proper rain tires and the challenge of uncertain weather conditions, the
Eurosport 944 qualified second in class for the 60-minute enduro. "The track
was very slick", Berberich commented. "The seal coating in many of the turns
made for unpredictable track conditions. Multiple times I would start to
spin out and would hit the steering stops like I did the weekend before.
Without being able to recover, the car would eventually spinout. Luckily I
didn't hit anything or anyone."
Starting towards the back of the pack and second in class, the goal for the
Eurosport 944 was to finish the enduro and to stay out of trouble. With
unfavorable track conditions, there was never a dull moment for spectators.
"Turn one and two gave many drivers problems", commented Fritz. "I had a
blast watching that corner. Just about every other car spun out." The
Eurosport 944 was no exception. After avoiding any major incidence, the
Eurosport 944 finished second in class.
With the enduro completed, it was time to prepare for Sunday's sprint race
and pray for good weather.
