Co-op Racing Continues Winning Streak in 90 Minute Enduro

Lexington, OH – Co-op Racing returned to Mid-Ohio on Sunday, May 20th in order to compete in the Porsche Club
of America’s 90 minute enduro. The Eurosport 944 finished first in the 30 minute sprint race the day before. With
high hopes and teamwork, Andy Berberich and the Eurosport 944 placed first in class after 90 minutes of racing. The
win concluded the weekend at Mid-Ohio and strategically prepared the team for the NASA Nationals to be held at Mid
Ohio in September.
Sunday morning began with a 20 minute warm up session that ended in the rain. Saturday’s handling issues were still

morning. The rain kept the team from being able to make changes and evaluate their impact. In order
to increase the front grip of the car, a front shock change was made. This change significantly improved the handling
of the Eurosport 944. Even with the improvement, Berberich qualified the Eurosport 944 to second in class by a margin
of four tenths of a second.
Fortunately for the team, the first place qualifier missed staging on grid and was forced to start at the rear of the
field. This put the Eurosport 944 first in class in the grid. This was a significant break for the team. A strategic
team decision also aided the team in their success. Prior to grid, Berberich was discussing pit strategy with Brian
Weathered of Eurosport Racing. In order to ensure the car was placed in position 35 of the 52 car field, Eurosport
mechanic Andre drove the car placed the car on grid for Berberich. As Berberich approached the end of the long line
of cars, he was informed that the grid was given the five minute warning. After a quick jog to the car, help from Andre
to buckle in, and short time to relax, Berberich and the race was underway.
The race began for the field of fifty cars. The Eurosport 944 is at a disadvantage on the start and during the first
several high traffic laps. Berberich is able to utilize the limited horsepower of the car and maximize its handling
capabilities. This allows the Eurosport 944 to qualify ahead of upper class and higher horsepower cars. Unfortunately
during the early race laps, the Eurosport 944 is not able to maintain the momentum needed to turn fast laps and to stay
ahead of the higher horsepower cars. This is more significant during sprint races because of the duration of the race.
In endurance racing, time is available to regain those positions. Even though the Berberich gave up some positions on
the start, the Eurosport 944 still finished first in class and 23 in the 52 car field.
Overall, Co-op Racing was pleased with their performance and the lessons learned. The team has some issues to resolve
prior to the National weekend with NASA, but plans are already in place to address the issues.
The next race for Co-op Racing drivers Andy Berberich and Bryan White will be at
Mid America Motorplex in Pacific Junction, IA on June 30. Completed April 2002, Mid-America's road course is a
2.23-mile gem. Track has already become a much sought after venue for many of the nation's top motor sports organizations.
